Michigan Jaguars 01 Green (MI) paved its way into the semifinals with a 2-0 victory over SLSC Cosmos 01 Lawless (OK). Cosmos started the games with the best chance as a long ball found Kelbie Washington but the tough volley chance sailed over the bar.
Jaguars turned up the pressure which led to chances, but nothing convincing enough to gain a lead. The Jaguars’ best effort in the first half was turned away by Cosmos keeper Hanna Tillison as she slid out to stop a 1v1 chance.
The Jaguars earned a 1-0 lead shortly into the second half as Gabrielle McCaslin found the back of the net. With the Cosmos needing a good result to advance, they continued to press forward but Jaguars struck again, this time from Danielle Wolfe. Wolfe got in behind the Cosmos defense and finished her chance to increase the lead to 2-0.
Both teams continued to create chances but Cosmos couldn’t create enough quality in front of net to test the Jaguars’ keeper. The Oklahoma side’s best effort in the second half came from Kylee Wickersham. After winning a free kick, Wickersham pounded her opportunity from deep, but just didn’t have enough pace on it and the Jaguars keeper secured the ball safely with a catch.
Jaguars held off the late Cosmos pressure to secure the 2-0 victory and its spot in the 16U Girls semifinals where they will face off Saturday against in-state foe Nationals Union 01 Black (MI).
