FRISCO, Texas (June 20, 2016) — The 2016 US Youth Soccer Region II (Midwest) Championships, to be played June 24-29, will provide an estimated economic impact of $9.5 million to the Westfield, Ind., area.

The top 216 boys and girls US Youth Soccer teams from Region II will compete at the Grand Park Sports Complex during the event.

“We’re honored to be hosting the prestigious US Youth Soccer Regionals event at Grand Park,” said Westfield Mayor Andy Cook. “An event such as this makes a substantial impact on our local economy and allows us to showcase our ‘Westfield Welcome’ hospitality.”

Local restaurants, hotels, retail stores and others will benefit from the more than 4,000 players, coaches, teams and tournament officials, along with numerous spectators attending the six-day tournament. Visitors to the Westfield, Ind., area will book an estimated 10,000 room nights at area hotels.

“Grand Park is shaping up to be the nation’s premier soccer destination for competing youth, and we are honored that US Youth Soccer chose us as the host site for such a prestigious event,” said Karen Radcliff, vice president and chief strategy officer of Hamilton County Tourism.  “We will welcome thousands of soccer fans and visiting teams from 14 states during what looks to be one of the busiest weekends for tourism in Hamilton County this summer.”

US Youth Soccer State Champions and Midwest Regional League wildcards in the Under-13 through Under-19 Boys and Girls age groups from 14 State Associations, including from host Indiana Soccer, will participate in the event. The other state associations represented include Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio North, Ohio South, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Regional winners of the U-13 through U-19 Boys and Girls brackets will earn a berth to the 2016 US Youth Soccer National Championships, July 25-31, 2016 in Frisco, Texas.

Along with the Region II Championships, Westfield, Ind. also served as the host of the 2016 US Youth Soccer Region II Presidents Cup, which took place June 16-19 at Grand Park. Region II Presidents Cup was expected to bring in nearly $4 million. Overall, the two tournaments are expected to make a significant impact on the city of Westfield and all in the span of three weeks.
