2016 US Youth Soccer Region III Championships to bring estimated $8 million to Greenville, S.C.

FRISCO, Texas (June 15, 2016) — The 2016 US Youth Soccer Region III (South) Championships, to be played June 24-30, will provide an estimated economic impact of $8 million to the Greenville, S.C., area.
Local restaurants, hotels, retail stores and others will benefit from the more than 5,000 players, coaches, and team and tournament officials, along with an estimated 2,000 spectators attending the seven-day tournament. Visitors to Central Arkansas will book an estimated 11,000 room nights at area hotels.
The top 206 boys and girls US Youth Soccer teams from Region III will compete at the MeSA Soccer Complex and Carolina FC complex during the event. Greenville last hosted the Region III Championships in 2012.
“It is an honor to be chosen again to hold the US Youth Soccer Region III Championships in Greenville, S.C., and set the tone for the prized US Youth Soccer National Championships this July in Frisco, Texas,” said Pearse Tormey, the Region III Championships Director of Operations. “Soccer means a great deal to this community. We are delighted to host the best players and teams from across the region in this elite competition and utilize our top-tier facilities and volunteers.”
The opening ceremony will be held on June 23 at Heritage Park in Simpsonville, S.C., officially kicking off the week’s event by honoring all the teams and players who worked hard to make it to the Region III Championships.
US Youth Soccer State Champions and select wildcards in the Under-13 through Under-19 Boys and Girls age groups from 12 State Associations, including from host South Carolina Youth Soccer Association, will participate in the event. The other state associations represented include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Texas, Oklahoma, South Texas and Tennessee.
Regional winners of the U-13 through U-19 Boys and Girls brackets will earn a berth to the 2016 US Youth Soccer National Championships, which will take place July 25-31, 2016, in Frisco, Texas.
