In a nail-biting overtime match between Legends FC 99 Academy (CA-S) and Arsenal Colorado Academy 99 (CO), Arsenal Colorado came away with a 2-1 win. The Arsenal Colorado side came in second place in Group A behind TSC Showcase (TN) to advance to the National semifinals. In tomorrow’s 18U Girls National Championship final, Arsenal Colorado and TSC Showcase will meet again to decide who will be named National Champions.
In today’s match against Legends FC, the first half was scoreless. However, 15 minutes into the second half, Legends FC’s Kaylee Ramirez found the back of the net. Nearing the end of the game, Arsenal Colorado’s Taylor Bee leveled the score at 1-1.
When the final regulation whistle blew, the game was tied at 1-1. There would be two 15 minute halves remaining of play for the teams. In the first overtime half, there were chances for both teams, but neither side capitalized. With five minutes to go in the second half of overtime, Bee stepped up, again. Bee flew through the air and headed in a beautifully placed corner kick and gave her team the advantage.
Bee was relentless in today’s game, and she seized the opportunity that was given to her. Showing true leadership and grit, she stepped up when her team needed her most. More specifically, in the 115th minute.
“I went in there determined. ‘Someone has got to put this one in and it is going to be to be me.’ I saw the perfect ball, it was in slow motion and I went in and just hit it,” Bee said. “I can’t even describe the feeling.”
Though Arsenal Colorado fell to fellow finalist TSC Showcase in group play, tomorrow is a new day and new challenges will be awaiting for the teams. Both sides have fought incredibly hard to get to this point and one of the squads will be rewarded with the highest honor.
