FRISCO, Texas (May 25, 2016) — Through success in the US Youth Soccer Far West Regional League, several teams have punched their ticket to the 2016 US Youth Soccer Region IV (West) Championships, to be played June 20-26 at the Simplot Sports Complex in Boise, Idaho.

The FWRL qualifiers will join US Youth Soccer State Cup champions and select wild card teams, as more than 200 top US Youth Soccer Boys and Girls sides from the 14 US Youth Soccer State Associations compete for the regional title. Daily reports and complete results from the tournament will be available on http://championships.usyouthsoccer.org/regionIV/.

Region IV is comprised of 14 US Youth Soccer State Associations, including Alaska, Arizona, California North, California South, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

The Far West Regional League provides an opportunity for the most competitive teams in US Youth Soccer Region IV to play each other on a scheduled basis while also competing for placement in the prestigious US Youth Soccer Regional Championships, as well as the highly-competitive US Youth Soccer National League.

The National League is an extension of the highly successful US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues (Region I Champions League, Region II Midwest Regional League, Region III Southern Premier League and Region IV Far West Regional League). Each league provides the best localized matchups and an opportunity for advancement to play at the national level — giving players great opportunities for development while facing top competition.

The teams who have qualified for the Region IV Championships help make up the 24 FWRL sides who have also earned their place into the National League for the 2016-17 season. Under-14, Under-15 and Under-16 teams who won their respective FWRL division (Northwest, Desert, CRL North, CRL South) in the 2015-16 seasonal year have automatically qualified for next year’s National League. Two FWRL representatives will be selected as National League qualifiers from the 2015-16 Under-13 and Under-17 gender age groups. A complete list of 2016-17 National League qualifiers can be found here.

If a FWRL champion listed above also wins its US Youth Soccer State Cup, that team advances to the Region IV Championships as the State Cup champion and the next-in-line FWRL team is chosen to represent the league in Boise.

The Region IV Championships feature top teams in the Under-13 through Under-19 age groups beginning with round robin games Monday, June 20, through Wednesday, June 22. Following a rest day, quarterfinal matches will be played Friday, June 24, with semifinals Saturday, June 25. The Region IV Champions will be crowned following final games on Sunday, June 26.

Regional winners of the Under-13 through Under-19 age groups earn a berth to the 2016 US Youth Soccer National Championships, July 25-31, at the Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco, Texas. One of the 14 national crowns awarded is the James P. McGuire Cup, the oldest trophy in youth sports, dating back to 1935 with the inaugural youth championships.

The National Championships, along with each of the four Regional Championships, offer teams with additional opportunities for development and exposure to college coaches as they compete among the nation’s best. A majority of players who compete in US Youth Soccer National Championships Series events go on to play at the next level, including with U.S. Soccer National Teams, and many selections in the MLS and NWSL Drafts have competed in the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series during their youth careers.
