FRISCO, Texas (June 7, 2012) – By winning the recent US Youth Soccer East New York State Championships, a Huntington, N.Y., area soccer team has qualified to compete in the US Youth Soccer Region I (East) Championships, presented by the National Guard.
The team will be among the more than 260 top US Youth Soccer Boys and Girls teams from the 15 US Youth Soccer State Associations competing for the regional title, June 28-July 3 at the US Youth Soccer Region I Championships at Classics Park Soccer Complex, Hempfield High School and Elizabethtown College in Lancaster, Pa. The US Youth Soccer Region I Championships, featuring top teams in the Under-12 through Under-19 age groups, begin Thursday, June 28, with opening ceremonies at Clipper Stadium. Round robin games are Friday, June 29, through Sunday, July 1, with semifinal matches Monday, July 2. The US Youth Soccer Region I Champions will be crowned following final games on Tuesday, July 3.
US Youth Soccer State Cup champions and select runners-up from 15 State Associations in Region I, including host Eastern Pennsylvania Soccer Association will participate. The other State Associations represented are Connecticut, Delaware, Eastern New York, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York West, Pennsylvania West, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia.
Regional winners of the U14 through U19 age groups earn a berth to the 2012 US Youth Soccer National Championships, presented by the National Guard, July 24-29, at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C.
One of the 12 national crowns awarded is the James P. McGuire Cup, the oldest trophy in youth sport dating back to 1935 with the inaugural youth championships.
