FRISCO, Texas (May 31, 2012)
–By winning the recent US Youth Soccer Mississippi State Championships, a Jackson, Miss., area soccer team has qualified to compete in the US Youth Soccer Region III (South) Championships
, presented by the National Guard.
The team will be among the more than 200 top US Youth Soccer Boys and Girls teams from the 12 US Youth Soccer State Associations
competing for the regional title, June 18-24 at the US Youth Soccer Region III Championships at MeSA Soccer Complex in Greenville, S.C. Daily reports and complete results from the tournament will be available on http://Championships.USYouthSoccer.org/regionIII
The Region III Championships feature top teams in the Under-13 through Under-19 age groups beginning Thursday, June 14, with opening ceremonies, at Fluor Field. Round robin games are Friday, June 15, through Sunday, June 17. Quarterfinal matches are Monday, June 18 for the U15 - U16 age groups and June 19 for the U17 and U18 age groups. Semifinals are Tuesday, June 19 for U13 and U19 and Wednesday, June 20 for U14 – U18. The Region III Champions will be crowned following final games on Wednesday, June 20 for U13 and U19 and Thursday, June 21 for U14 – U18, at MeSA Soccer Complex.
US Youth Soccer State Cup Champions and select runners-up from 12 US Youth Soccer State Associations in Region III, including host South Carolina Soccer Association will participate. The other State Associations represented are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Texas, Oklahoma, South Texas and Tennessee.
Regional winners of the U-14 through U-19 age groups earn a berth to the 2012 US Youth Soccer National Championships
, presented by the National Guard, July 24-29, at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C.
One of the 12 national crowns awarded is the James P. McGuire Cup, the oldest trophy in youth sport dating back to 1935 with the inaugural youth championships.
