After a loss in its first game, KHA 05 Red (KY) needed a result in its second game to keep its hopes alive. It didn’t look good for KHA as Liverpool 05 Elite (TX-N) got on the board in just the 2nd minute of play to take an early 1-0 lead.

Liverpool increased the lead to 2-0 after a drop-back pass was smashed in from deep by Katarina Campbell and carried that lead into halftime.

“You go into a first half and you go down two to zero, it’s hard at this level to come back and score two goals to tie it up or to even come back and win because the level of play here is so high,” said KHA Head Coach Tiffany Roberts. “We talked to the girls at halftime and told them that even though you’re down two, if you go out and get two goals you’re still in this thing.

KHA begin battling back in the second half and pulled a goal closer in the 43rd minute as Amanda Schlueter muscled her way through the Liverpool defense to score.

Schlueter completed the comeback in 64th minute, ringing a shot from close range of the right post and in. Liverpool had a great chance to take the lead late, but after a great cross into the box the ensuing shot was blocked by Rose Vigran. With the tie, KHA earns a crucial point and stays in the hunt for a spot in the 13U Girls National Championship final.

“To come out here and not play well in the first half= and then do what we did in the second half to show where and how we can do things shows a lot about us and we’ve kept ourselves alive for tomorrow,” continued Roberts. “We obviously are hoping that Surf pulls off a win tomorrow but we need to take care of business ourselves.”

KHA will need San Diego Surf 05 Academy Select (CA-S) to win tomorrow and will need a win of its own as it faces Pipeline SC Pre-Academy (MD) in the final day of preliminary play.
