Teams put everything on the line in today's quarterfinal matches at the US Youth Soccer Region IV Championships in order to earn a seat in the semis and get one step closer to earning the title of US Youth Soccer Region IV Champions.
Under-18 Girls
Real So Cal White and Leahi Premier (HI) were evenly matched, denying every shot. Chelsey Goo got one past the keeper in the 46th minute for Leahi, but it was Real's Lauren Kawamoto who evened the score with a 61st minute goal. Then, Erin Ortega finished off Real's 2-1 victory in the 82nd minute. Real will go head-to-head with a Cal North's Pleasanton Rage in semifinals.
Undefeated through prelims, Pleasanton Ridge (CA-N) continued their streak with a 6-0 shutout over Black Diamond SC (UT). Carlee Payne scored five of the six Pleasanton goals in the 17th, 25th, 30th, 50th and 74th minutes, and Ahsha Smith chipped in a 40th minute goal. Pleasanton will play Real So Cal White in semis.
LOSC Soul Crew (OR) got an early start today as Maureen Fitzgerald put up a first minute goal against Cal South's Slammers FC. Lauren Kennedy evened the score in the 16th minute. With the score at 1-1, and the opportunity to advance to the Region IV semifinals, Mariah Noguiera went on a scoring spree to complete a hat trick with goals in the 32nd, 57th and 67th minutes. Slammers face fellow So Cal team, the So Cal Blues in semifinals at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Today, the So Cal Blues had a shutout over Crossfire Premier (WA). Playing in the heat of the day, the teams battled to perform at their best. Taylor Canatsey had the first two So Cal goals in the 49th and 60th minutes and Shelby Chambers-Garcia had the So Cal finisher.
Under-12 Boys
Legends FC (CA-S), kicked off their 8 a.m. game against Crossfire Premier (WA) with a bang thanks to a 2nd minute goal from Omar Hermosillo. Teammate, Collin Hossum extended Legend's lead to 2-0 with a 6th minute goal and Alejandro Vergara pushed it to 3-0 with a 29th minute goal. The Legend's solidified their 4-0 victory with Hermosillo's second goal of the day in the 42nd minute. Legends will face Arizona's Sereno 97 White in semifinals.
Cascade FC Boca Juniors (OR) held onto a 1-1 tie with Sereno 97 White (AZ) until the final minutes of the game. Sereno had a 1st minute, Brooks Lennon goal and Cascade's Christian Bernal-Renteria tied it up in the 36th minute. Sereno pulled off the 3-1 win with Santos Villasenor's 60th minute goal and one from Bret Schumacher in the stoppage time.
Under-14 Boys
Two Cal South teams, West Coast FC and Arsenal FC knew today's game was for keeps and the fight each team put showed it. West Coast's Eric Fabre nailed a free kick in the 29th minute and Arsenal's Jeremiah Goldentz evened the score in the 54th minute. With a 1-1 score at the end of regulation, the game went into overtime and Alejandro Perez shot the tie-breaking goal for West Coast in the 78th minute. West Coast advances to the semis where they will meet up with another Cal South team, Albion White.
Eastside FC Storm (WA) had a 2-0 win over Mission GS Real SF (CA-N) to continue their undefeated streak through regional play. Jordan Morris and Daniel Phillips had back-to-back goals in the 64th and 67th minutes. Eastside will play SC del Sol 95 White in Saturday's semifinal match.
