Many teams have secured their spot in Monday's semifinals, but others have to prove themselves tomorrow for the chance to advance.
Five defending Region I champions are back vying for a repeat title. Under-15 Girls SAC United Premier of Maryland have secured berth in the semifinals with one game to spare in group play, but Under-14 Girls PSC Baltimore 97 are out of contention after just two days. The fate of the other three returning champs will be settled Sunday on the final day of preliminary play.

Notes from a few of today's games…
Under-15 Girls
After a solid 2-0 victory over Rhode Island yesterday, Under-15 Girls FC Delco 95 (E-PA) rallied from a goal down versus West Virginia champions WVUSC Shox to tie 1-1. Shox grabbed the early lead in the 7th minute on a goal from Hannah Abraham, and that lead held strong until the last three minutes of the game when Delco found the equalizer through Rebecca Sherry to salvage a point and stay in contention to advance to the knockout rounds.
Victoria Carter helped Bayside FC (RI) rebound from an opening day loss with two goals to lead her team to a 2-1 victory over Rochester FC (NY-W), and keep them alive for the semifinals. Carter opened the scoring in the 18th minute as the half ended with Bayside in front. Alexandria Palluconi equalized for Rochester in the 53rd, but Carter's second in the 65th proved to be the game winner as both teams still have a chance to grab the top seed in the group tomorrow.
East Meadow Sparks (E-NY) have yet to be beaten with two draws after today's 0-0 tie with FSAFC West Hartford Premier (CT). But with US Youth Soccer National League U-15 Girls champion SAC United Premier (MD) grabbing a second win today, SAC has locked up the top seed in the group to advance to the semifinals regardless of the result of their match tomorrow.
Under-16 Boys
The Under-16 Boys Group C will come to a dramatic conclusion tomorrow as all four teams are 1-1, with just one goal separating the teams in goal differential. After a loss on day one, PDA Harkes (NJ) took command of the group today with a 3-1 victory over Beachside (CT). Colin Stripling notched the opening goal for PDA in the 10th minute and Daniel Weldon increased the lead to two before halftime. Hunter Padilla added a third for PDA in the 72nd, but Peiter Zenner grabbed it right back for Beachside two minutes later to keep Beachside within two. The PDA defense held firm the rest of the way to deliver the 3-1 win and give PDA the advantage headed into the final day of preliminary play.
Also throwing Group C into a logjam was Bruno United's (RI) 2-0 victory over Pachuca Dragons (MD). Pachuca failed to take advantage after an opening win as Coleman Clark put Bruno ahead in the 14th minute and Jozef Jennings sealed the game in the 80th for the Rhode Island side. All four teams still have the ability to claim the top spot tomorrow and advance to the semifinals.
HSC Heat (DE) couldn't put NH Classics away after twice taking the lead in their 2-2 draw. Moja Hale tallied twice for HSC, with the first in the 23rd, but Classics leveled in the 31st from Jon Knittel to head into the break 1-1. Hale grabbed the lead for HSC again in the 48th, but once again Classics clawed back in the 61st on a Erik Martel strike. Both teams remain alive, needing a win on the final day to have a chance to advance.
After two draws in the U-16 Boys Group B yesterday, and HSC and Classics tying again today, Northport Cow Harbor Sound (E-NY) jumped ahead in the standings with a 1-0 victory over Reston Knights FC (VA) today. Nino Alfonso converted the game winner off an indirect set piece inside the Reston penalty box in the 16th minute, and that would prove to be the difference as Reston was eliminated from contention.
Regional winners of the Under-14 through Under-19 age groups earn a berth to the 2011 US Youth Soccer National Championships to be played July 26-31, at Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix, Ariz.
The US Youth Soccer National Championships will consist of US Youth Soccer Regional Champions in the Under-14 through Under-19 Boys and Girls age groups as well as the US Youth Soccer National League qualifiers in the Under-15 through Under-17 Boys and Girls age groups to complete the field of 60 teams.
