Frisco, Texas to host 2018 National Championships
FRISCO, Texas (August 21, 2017) — US Youth Soccer is proud to announce that Spotsylvania, Va., and Virginia Youth Soccer Association will host the 2018 US Youth Soccer Region I (East) Championships as part of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, the country's oldest and most prestigious national youth soccer tournament. The games will take place at the Publix Virginia Soccer Training Center & Embrey Mill Complex.
The championships are expected to draw more than 4,500 players and an estimated 10,000 spectators.
The US Youth Soccer Region I Championships consist of US Youth Soccer State Champions from 15 Eastern State Associations, including the host Virginia Youth Soccer Association, US Youth Soccer Region I Eastern Regional League champions, as well as drawn wildcard entries. Following individual state championship tournaments, the Regional Championships are the second step of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series.
The tournament will attract more than 260 boys and girls teams, ages 12U through 19U, from the 15 Eastern US Youth Soccer State Associations that make up US Youth Soccer Region I (Connecticut, Delaware, Eastern New York, Eastern Pennsylvania, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York West, Pennsylvania West, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia).
“It is always exciting to begin planning future US Youth Soccer Regional Championships, and part of that initial planning is choosing the best possible host city for each of our four Regional Championships,” said Flo Egan, Region I Championships Chair. “Virginia did a great job last year and we know it’ll be just as great in 2018 when we return.”
Regional winners of the 13U through 19U brackets earn a berth to the 2018 US Youth Soccer National Championships.
